This policy explains our data handling practices for all versions of our iOS application. Any substantial changes will be communicated to you within thirty days of implementation.
BeDreams is an iOS app developed by BeDreams Inc., a software company dedicated to creating offline-first utility applications. We operate the offline world atlas application called BeDreams, which provides comprehensive country data, including flags, capitals, facts, and time zone information. Our mission is to provide rich geographic information without requiring internet connectivity. We believe in building privacy-respecting software that empowers users to explore the world on their own terms, without surveillance or unnecessary data collection.
BeDreams operates almost entirely on-device. We collect minimal data, all processed locally on your device. Specifically, we store: Country data (flags, capitals, facts, time zones) within your local cache; QuizScore records tracking your quiz performance and streaks; and PassportMark entries recording countries you've marked as visited or dreamed about. We also collect non-personal analytics: app crashes, feature usage (which tabs you open), and app version information, transmitted only with your explicit consent. We do not collect personally identifiable information like your name, email, location, or device identifier. No login or account is required to use BeDreams.
We use on-device data exclusively for providing the features you explicitly use: rendering Country profiles in the Explore tab, powering comparisons in the Compare feature, tracking your quiz performance, and maintaining your Passport of visited and dream countries. Quiz scores are stored locally to calculate your streaks—a core gamification feature. Analytics data helps us identify crashes and understand feature adoption patterns, allowing us to improve the offline experience. We never use your data for marketing, profiling, or personalization targeting. Your QuizScore records remain entirely on your device unless you choose to export them.
Your privacy is our highest priority. BeDreams is designed to minimize data exposure. All sensitive data—your PassportMark entries, quiz scores, and browsing history within the app—remains on your device in encrypted local storage. We do not share, transmit, or persist your personal data on external servers. We do not sell, use, or disclose user data to third parties for any purpose. We do not use data brokers, ad networks, or tracking services. The only external communication is optional crash reporting (with your consent) and essential app update notifications. Your device remains your only database.
BeDreams uses limited third-party services, all carefully selected for privacy compliance. Apple App Store handles app distribution and legitimate operational purposes. Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports and error logs only when you opt in, helping us identify and fix bugs. Sentry tracks application performance metrics and error rates with your consent. All three processors operate under strict data protection agreements. Firebase and Sentry are configured to collect zero personally identifiable information—only technical diagnostics. We confirm these third parties provide the same or equal protection for user data as outlined in this policy.
On-device data is retained indefinitely until you delete it manually or uninstall BeDreams. Specifically: Country profiles and cached geographic data remain stored for the lifetime of your BeDreams installation; QuizScore records persist until you manually clear app data or uninstall; PassportMark entries (your visited and dream countries) are stored indefinitely within your Passport until deletion. Crash reports retained by Crashlytics are deleted after 90 days. Analytics events in Sentry are retained for 30 days. Server-side backups, if any, are deleted within 7 days of account deletion request. Uninstalling BeDreams immediately removes all local data from your device.
BeDreams minimizes international data transfers. All data processing occurs on your device in your country of residence. Optional crash reporting and analytics data may be transmitted to U.S.-based servers (Apple, Firebase, Sentry) only with your explicit consent. If you are in the European Union, we ensure data transfers comply with GDPR standards through standard contractual clauses. If you are in California, we comply with CCPA requirements regarding international transfers. You may opt out of all optional external data transmission by disabling crash reporting in settings.
If you are a resident of the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you specific rights over your personal data. You have the right to access your data and request a copy of all information we hold about you. You have the right to rectification, requesting that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information. You have the right to erasure (the 'right to be forgotten'), requesting deletion of your data where legally permitted. You have the right to data portability, requesting transfer of your data in a structured format. You have the right to object to processing, limiting how we use your information. If you are a resident of California, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold—and we confirm that BeDreams does not sell your data. You have the right to delete your personal information, except where necessary to provide services. You have the right to correct inaccurate personal information. You have the right to opt out of the sale of personal information, though BeDreams does not sell user data to anyone. You have the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights—we do not discriminate or retaliate against you for asserting your CCPA rights. BeDreams employs industry-standard security measures to protect user data. On-device data is encrypted using iOS's native encryption (Data Protection API). Optional crash reporting and analytics data are transmitted over HTTPS with TLS encryption. We conduct regular security audits and penetration testing. If a breach occurs and affects your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours of discovery, as required by applicable law. Notification will include the nature of the breach, the types of data involved, and recommended protective actions. We will also notify relevant regulatory authorities within 72 hours where required.
